If you are a BMW enthusiast, geek, DIYer or even a garage looking for repair information I can’t recommend this site enough. www.newtis.info It has all the info you could need from the likes of The E36 / E39 right through to the current models (Time of writing this, 2019).
On the front page it looks a bit bleak, but don’t let it fool you. Usual garbage text that it’s not official etc. I think that’s pretty clear anyhow – BMW wouldn’t just give this info away, you have to pay for it on the AOS portal. So bare in mind it could disappear at any time!
After entering the system you are presented with a list of models. You can select your model manually, or enter the last 7 digits of your VIN and click search.
Once you’ve selected your model the good stuff is here:
- “Repair manuals & technical data” – Repair instructions (how to replace components), tightening torques, technical data, fluids information & repair hints
- “Wiring Diagrams and Functional Descriptions” – wiring diagrams is pretty self explanatory. Functional descriptions is how features / control units on the car work. Expect to get a general overview of the control unit, info where it’s located, what it operates, connector assignments, fuse assignments, how it communicates to other control units & more.
- “Electrical Components / connectors” – lists components and wiring plug connections, then you can relevant wiring diagrams, functional descriptions, installation locations
- “Non electrical diagnosis” – Help in diagnosing mechanical issues & lists some known issues / complaints.
